Every chapter starts with the first page
And sometimes we just have to take the courage to write it.
Having the courage to begin is something that has set me back so often in the past. My head was always full of dreams and ideas, and my notebooks were filled with all the possibilities. And yet a year, then two went by and I still didn’t start.
Every year, I would say this time is the right one. And every year, I would regret not starting.
Then came my daughter, and everything changed. All of a sudden, time became very limited, but my dreams kept on living inside of me. Many sleepless nights were spent thinking about what to do with those hopes and dreams.
Will they forever die in my notebooks, or will I finally take the courage to try new things and live the life I aspire to?
If you are reading this right now, you know that I decided to take this year and try new things.
I was always an artist for as long as I could remember. Painting and creating was a passion that always brought so much joy and happiness into my life. I had this deep desire to create and share those creations with people, but I never knew how.
Motherhood gave me the strength and the courage to finally do so. I value my time, and passion so much more because I know how important it is to live a life that fulfills you.
So much of the process of being an artist is hidden, we rarely get to see what it is like to create art. Instagram and youtube often show the beautiful side of it, but there is a lot of struggle frustration, and blank canvas moments that happen and are often not shared. The past year, I have loved following illustrators on patreon and substack and learning more about their journeys and struggles. And I wanted to start sharing my own story in the form of an art diary.
This platform seems like such a safer space than other social media. The slower pace gives us space to breathe, listen and experience art in a completely different way. I finally feel I can take you through my process and explain more about the art, hopefully allowing you to better connect with it.
Here’s what you can expect to see/read from me:
Monthly round-up of my work
News on upcoming collection releases
Sketchbook spreads and behind-the-scenes look at my art process
Advice on having a creative practice
Life updates on being a mom and artist
Art dates posts including inspiring artists, exhibitions, and art book reviews.
You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox, and you can catch up every now and then with me by visiting me here.
And the other thing that I’m excited about in sharing my work here is the opportunity to connect with you the reader in a more meaningful way.
So I look forward to hearing from you.
